Calum’s role as Lead Architect for Malcolm Fraser Architects began at appointment stage in 2009 when the project was won through an invited design competition by the University of Edinburgh. We had an excellent working relationship with the project team led by Calum, which included considerable consultations not only with the user group, but with the numerous University stakeholders, which were well managed. Prior to construction on site, considerations was also given to working on a live campus and the complex on site issues were dealt with timeously. Calum Duncan Architects provided a very thorough, considered service, from initial design conception, planning stages, build and through to completion. It was particularly helpful having the regular/weekly input and meetings with an architect during the build stages, to ensure that proper procedures and processes were being adhered to by the builder. During this stage there are a lot of unfamiliar aspects to the build, so it was really helpful and reassuring to have them checking this and making sure everything, including costs, were under control.
